CLIENT

COMPLETION

Feb 2019 – Apr 2019

Dominion were contracted to construct 4x new fire separations at Scott Base, Antarctica as part of overall passive fire upgrade works on base.

This project involved installing 7x PFC steel members with 14 new threaded rod piles connecting the PFC at the top and drilled 500mm into the permafrost below. These were installed to support the individual separations inside.

The internal works consisted of fitting fire doors and fire rated Gib to the adjacent walls and underfloor space to form the separations. The underfloor spaces were very congested with existing services, all of these needed to be fed through fire rated boxes or sealed with mastic.

This job was challenging due to the extreme isolation and harsh climate onsite. Towards the end of the project temperatures reached a very cold -63 degrees outside.
