NZ STEEL PLANT

Dominion was engaged with other contractors on the New Zealand Steel Mill Expansion Project, both on the Stage I – Steel Plant and the Stage II – Hot Rolling Mill.

The company was directly involved in setting 54,000sq m and placing 29,000cu m of concrete to a wide variety of structures.

Constructed over a 600-acre site, these included:

• Many foundations and slabs
• Massive 10m-high machine bases
• Tunnels A 700sq m scale pit, 14m deep in the ground
• Two water treatment plants
• Cooling towers

The scale of the project required considerable co-ordination of staff and materials. Set out of the works was crucial and precision was vital for placing the numerous machine holding-down bolts to the exacting tolerances specified.
