BUNNINGS NEW LYNN

After successfully completing 2 retail stores and 2 trade centres for Bunnings Ltd, Dominion was awarded as the main contractor for a new design & build Bunnings Warehouse in New Lynn. Utilising sub-contractors experience in building Bunnings stores, we have engaged both electrical and mechanical trades as design and build contractors.

Site size is 21,779m² with a full basement car park of 11,177m² and obtaining 300 car parks. The store above consists of a Timber Trade Sales area of 2,055m², Retail area of 6280m² and the enclosed Nursery at 1763m². Part of the retail store is a playground, Café and DIY training facilities. The entrance icon has a travalator and large lift for access to the basement. Total floor area is 22,989 m².

The New Lynn store is the first Bunnings store in New Zealand with a full basement car park and retail store above. This has required specific engineered detailing and construction methodologies to accommodate this challenge.

The site is situated on the corner of a major intersection with the rear of the site backing onto the railway line and a Watercare “Scroggy Stream”. During construction Dominion ensured the stream was protected from any potential environmental impact.

Part of the access to the store is a suspended truck loading dock which is constructed over the stream. In places the loading dock is 12mtrs above the stream edge. With the site restrictions the build had to be done from the inside out and there was little room for exterior cranage or access as the store used the entire site. On the main entrance Dominion was also required to do some infrastructure works to widen the road and introduce a traffic-signalled entrance.
